Cayetano Ferrer is a Los Angeles-based video, photography and sculptural/installation artist. Cayetano received his BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and his MFA from the University of Southern California in 2010. With two exhibitions in L.A and one in Dusseldorf, Germany, his future is looking bright.
In the gallery we highlight two wonderful series from Cayetano that transform both street signs and cardboard boxes into fully-transparent objects that would cause any passerby to do a double-take. In his series entitled City of Chicago (2004-2006), Cayetano pasted high-quality photographs printed onto stickers and affixed them to existing street signs. By photographing the trees, buildings and sky directly behind these signs, he could then achieve an incredible transparency effect in the real world.
In an evolution from his City of Chicago series, Cayetano followed up with Western Imports (2007-2008), swapping street signs for cardboard boxes. The results are truly amazing, and exactly something I’d love to unexpectedly see walking down a street. Our Page salutes you Cayetano, keep up the awesome work!
