West Elm's Hudson collection adds a playful asymmetry to the contemporary bedroom. The five- and six-drawer dressers feature offset drawers of different sizes; a three-drawer version and a nightstand are also available. The dresser shown here has a white lacquer finish but also comes in chocolate or barley-colored ash veneer.

Functional Focal Point
Framing a bed with built-in storage not only provides a place to store odd items, but it gives the eye a place to land. "This was an older home where the space had become convoluted over the years with lots of add-ons," says designer Connie Gustafson. "We eliminated some closets and opened up the space to make a nice master suite. We designed this shelving specifically so the bed could fit right in." The simple architectural details on the built-ins match the character of the home, and drapery tassels on the doorknobs add a polished look.
Old-School Glamour
This mirrored nightstand echoes the opulent finishes used throughout this bedroom designed by Erinn Valencich. Note her clever lighting trick: "I decided to hang pendant lights over each nightstand instead of using standard lamps," she says. This leaves the table surface free for other items. Storage is also available inside the table behind the touch-latch doors.
Sleek Modular Storage
This cozy unit from West Elm combines a six-drawer storage bed frame with a sleek headboard and modular nightstands. Finished in white lacquer or a chocolate veneer, this low-slung contemporary set makes it easy to stash books, linens and clothing out of sight. Sizing options run from twin to king.
Clean and Simple
A stunning ocean view like this one calls for clean lines in the bedroom. The owners of this home already had the bed frame shown, so designer Sarah Barnard added an upholstered headboard and had this electronic storage console custom-made to match. The room was fairly small, so mounting the console on the wall preserved the illusion of ample floor space.

Zungulila Bushcamp
Giving new meaning to the term "roughing it," the canvas walls and ceiling are reminiscent of a tent, but the amenities are anything but basic. Complete with an en suite bathroom and outdoor shower, plus a sunken plunge-pool, guests stay cool after a long day prowling the savanna on one of Luangwa's famous guided walking safaris. Available only from June to January, guests spend the night along a bend of the Kapamba River where natural springs attract huge herds of game. Image courtesy of Zungulila Bushcamp

Taj Lake Palace, Udaipur, India
This suite is aptly named Chandra Prakash, which means Luster of the Moon. The crown jewel of a 250-year-old pleasure palace constructed by Maharana Jagat Singh II in 1746, this suite was later used as the court of Maharana Bhopal Singh in the 1930s. Gilt moldings, sinuously carved marble and intricate ceiling frescoes add to the suite's elaborate decoration. Situated on an island in India's Lake Pichola, the hotel was used as Octopussy's lair in the 1983 James Bond film and has long been a destination for European royalty and American celebrities. Elegant Design, Happy Budget
When walking into this spacious and elegant master bedroom, you would never guess that every piece of furniture is from a discount store, wholesale club or budget-friendly home store like Ikea. From the Target headboard to the Walmart area rug, RMS user BeachBrights was able to save hundreds of dollars to put toward the other rooms in her home remodeling plan. She stuck to the budget and didn't sacrifice style — now that's a win-win situation.
Shabby Chic Dreams
RMS user mysweetsavannah gave her 11-year-old daughter's room an incredible candy-inspired makeover while she was away at camp. An abundance of DIY artwork and decor, like the PEZ dispenser shadowbox collection, candy and white tissue pom-poms, helped keep the project budget-friendly.
